I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Local SNT VAWG walk in WADDON PARK 8TH DECEMBER 2025 AT 18:00 Local Waddon Safer Neighbourhoods Team organised a successful VAWG walk in WADDON Park at 6pm last night inviting the local residents to accompany the ward officers and local councillors on an evening walk around Waddon Park. This walk allowed local residents to highlight their concerns with the park and the local area to both the police and the councillors. The three main takeaways were: 1. Lighting in the park- Waddon Park currently has no lighting and this was highlighted by residents and officers that it is too dark. Residents stated that they do not feel safe when walking in the park once the sun has gone down. Local SNT officers often patrol the park in the evening, however due to shift patterns and abstractions officers cannot be in the park all the time. The council have highlighted that they will work on pushing this with Croydon Council and getting lights installed across the park. 2. Cutting back the bushes- Residents also stated that the bushes in the park need to be maintained and cut back. The aim of this will be for more visibility in the park and a reduction in hidden space that is used for Antisocial Behaviour (ASB). Waddon SNT aim to spend more time in the park over the winter months and use the new café as a base for officers to engage with the local residents. 3. A promise for more organised walks- At the end of the walk everyone was in mutual agreement that more of these walks would be beneficial for everyone involved. The walk is a great opportunity for you to meet your local officers and voice your concerns for the area or just to simply have an evening walking your local park. If you missed out on last night's walk then do not worry as we aim to organise the next one as soon as possible in the new year! We look forward to meeting you all!
